St Annes - A Joyful Garden Full of Colour and Character
At MRLandscapes, we believe gardens should reflect the personality of the people who live in them. Our St Anne’s project is a perfect example of how a thoughtful layout, bold planting and playful detail can transform an overlooked plot into a vibrant, joy-filled retreat.
Located in a residential spot with an irregular footprint, the garden initially lacked coherence. Our clients wanted something uplifting and distinctive - a garden that would celebrate colour, texture, and creativity while remaining functional for day-to-day living.
The Brief
The brief was to create a warm, welcoming garden with lots of personality - somewhere to entertain, relax and enjoy year-round. A dedicated seating space was essential, along with a sense of structure and softness in equal measure. The clients also wanted bold planting, something that would feel layered and evolving throughout the seasons, with a mix of colours and forms.
We were also asked to incorporate a stunning Tobias feature wall, which would help create a focal point and add a touch of artistic flair to the space.

The Design
Our design took its cue from the shape of the garden, playing with angles to draw the eye and create visual rhythm. The layout was broken into purposeful zones: a main seating area, meandering paths through lush beds, and space for informal planting moments.
Boundaries were softened with textured planting while new slatted fencing was added where needed to bring cohesion. The Tobias feature wall was positioned as a central feature behind the main seating area, creating a beautiful backdrop that glows in the sunlight and anchors the space.
Planting was rich in both colour and texture - think Salvia, Helenium, Sedum, and ornamental grasses - chosen for seasonal longevity and a relaxed, abundant feel.

A Garden with Personality and Purpose
This garden was designed not just to be looked at but to be lived in. Sculptural terracotta pots bring structure and warmth to the space, while a decorative mirror above the Tobias feature wall reflects light and foliage, adding depth and character. The layout encourages both relaxation and informal entertaining, creating a garden that feels welcoming, thoughtful, and deeply personal.
We’re also delighted to share that MRLandscapes has been featured in the latest issue of House & Garden - one of the UK’s most iconic titles celebrating the very best in home and garden design. You’ll find us showcased in this month’s “Indian Summer” section.

Built for Everyday Moments
From morning coffee on the bench to hosting friends on a late summer evening, this garden was designed to support every part of the clients’ lifestyle. Subtle lighting highlights key planting and features after dark, giving the space a gentle glow and a second life in the evening hours. This MRLandscapes client testimonial is a perfect example of how thoughtful design can create a garden that feels both personal and practical.
