Elm Road, Kingston - Back Garden

A Framed Retreat in the Heart of Kingston
This compact rear garden in Kingston has been transformed into a calm, design-led retreat, a space that feels both intimate and effortlessly connected to the home.

At the centre of the scheme is a sunken Millboard deck in a soft oak finish, positioned to align seamlessly with the kitchen extension and create a natural flow between inside and out. The seating area is framed by painted timber posts, introducing a subtle architectural structure that supports a removable canopy and enhances the sense of enclosure.

Planting is carefully composed to provide year-round interest and a layered visual experience. Multi-stem Betula trees bring height and lightness, while Acer varieties introduce seasonal colour and delicacy. Surrounding beds are filled with perennials, offering texture and softness that evolves throughout the year.

New slatted fencing creates a clean, cohesive backdrop, enhancing privacy while allowing planting to take centre stage. Lighting has been integrated with restraint, highlighting key trees and planting to create a soft, ambient glow after dark.

The result is a garden designed for slower moments - an outdoor space that feels considered, calm and quietly luxurious, functioning as a true extension of the home.
